Mama Kat Thursday: 9 Things I'd Rather Be Doing

The Mama Kat prompt for today is, "9 Things I'd Rather Be Doing."

A spring view of my back rain garden from a couple years ago--though
water hasn't pooled in it this week.

It's been raining off and on fairly steady these past 4 days and I've been stuck in the house when I have a million things to do outside!
Well, at least 9.

#1)  Mowing. The grass is going wild.

#2)  Hedging. The Gardenia's out front & Japanese privets on north side of the house still need trimming up.

#3)  Clean up along house foundation. It's termite inspection month & I like to clean up the pine-needles & leaves away from the foundation before hand.

#4)  Start flower & pepper seeds indoors for fall planting. (The rain isn't stopping me from doing that!)

#5)  Tie up the Climbing Rose. It's long arms are dangling out every which way. It's thorny, so not my fav task, which is why I've put it off so long.

#6)  Trim up around the base of the other Pampas Grass out front.

#7)  Work on several edging projects. (I got more the poundable black edging I like.)

#8)   Edge some invasive grass along some flower beds & move to a major bare spot in front of the front door. (This has been an on-going project all season.)

#9)  Spray a paper wasp nest. These are the large brown-red Carolina type. I have to get some Hornet spray when we go shopping this weekend.  I have to, because one nest becomes many as new Queens are spawned and pretty soon they're everywhere.
One of the buggers happened to sting me this past Monday on my thumb--right through my glove and only because I happened to be doing some garden stuff too a neighboring shrub where their nest was located.
Fortunately I'm not allergic to any kind of insect bite or sting.
Wasp stings feel like being stabbed with a hypodermic. A quick sting fix for the non-allergic is to immediately mix up a paste of apple cidar vinegar (or any vinegar) and baking soda & apply it to the sting area. The foaming action draws the poison out. Repeat as needed. The pain subsided gradually over 20 minutes and swelling subsided as well.
I also took a antihistamine tablet right away, too.
Between the two things, my thumb was completely better by the next day with no pain or swelling.
Note to self: remember to check shrubs for occupation with a broom handle first before doing anything with them or near them.
You'd think I'd have learned that by now.

So, what things are on your to-do list this week?

Thanks for Visiting!

You're quite the gardener. Sorry about the bee sting. I've been stung a few times in my life. I hope it doesn't happen again, but if it does, I'll try to remember the apple cider vinegar remedy. :)
Sounds like you have lots to do! Ouch on the sting! We use spit and tobacco to relieve sting pain. I like your remedy, too!
Sounds like you have lots of fun stuff to do. I like your sting remedy way better than mine--spit and tobacco!

You are 1 million times more productive outside than I am!
