Mama Kat Thursday: The Shelf Cat

Image
The Mama Kat blog prompt topic for today is: "Tell us how your pet came to be a member of your family." It's an interesting story really.  I mean, when you want to adopt to cat and you're standing in a shelter surrounded by 40 choices, how do you pick the right one? Sunni, age 13. She's not allowed outside on the ground, but Hubby will hold her on his lap on the patio. Luckily, Sunni picked us. It was 2003 and we'd been without a cat for 3 years.--it took me awhile to feel ready to face the decision of choosing a new one after the death of our previous beloved.  There's a no-kill shelter located on our Air Force Base and we went there. It was my first trip to a shelter. I also prayed hard before-hand for a way to know which cat to choose, one that would be a good companion for us. Our goal was to adopt a mature, indoor cat of docile character, younger then 5 years.   We walked into the cat room. It was overwhelming. So many cats...

Mama Kat Thursday: Taking A Chance

Image
The Mama Kat prompt topic for this week is:  "Talk about a time you took a chance. " I told hubby I was going to do this topic. He snorted and said, "You never take a chance." And, he's right--from a certain point of view--- if taking a chance only means risking your well-being. I would  never take a chance that might put me in harms way. However, "taking a chance" isn't limited to risking one's life or well-being, though it generally involves some kind of risk in order to gain something. But what's risked can be as small as time, or trust or matters of the heart; not just money or life.  So, from that point of view, a major time I took a chance is when I set up my first website to post some fan-fiction on that I'd been writing. You see, I don't take criticism well. I got a degree in Graphic Art only to figure out afterwards I wasn't equipped to be in the commercial art field because I lacked the necessary tolerance...

Mama Kat Thursday: Vivid Dreams

Image
The Mama Kat prompt today is about my... Everyone dreams. It's how the brain rests.  Dreams occur during the the initial stage of sleep called REM stage (Rapid Eye Movement) and last only a few minutes. The average person moves up and down between REM and deep dreamless sleep at least 3 or 4 times a night. But to recall a dream requires either waking up in the middle of it or right afterward and to retain memory of the details, one must either tell someone about it or write it down---something so it gets rehearsed into memory. Otherwise, dreams are fleeting things, fading quickly away. For me, my dreams are generally adventurous. I'm also what you would call a "lucid dreamer." That means I have an awareness of what I'm dreaming and frequently take conscious control of what's happening. Recently, I've had 2 fun, very vivid dreams: one from last week ago and one from this morning: The setting of the first was a large airplane hanger wher...

Mama Kat Thursday: Double Prompts

Image
If you read yesterdays blog, you know an outside faucet pipe  burst in our garage yesterday morning. The plumbers arrived about 4:30 and tapped it off. The spraying water did manage to melt most of my nice cardboard Christmas storage boxes that were sitting on the floor where it was, but that was proven to be an opportunity to upgrade. Luckily plastic storage boxes were on sale at Walmart this this week and picked up a pair of "light" storage boxes with hinged lids & string holders to wrap lights last night. This was, of course, after eating dinner at Ruby Tuesdays---who wants to cook-in after all that!  There were two Mama Kat prompts I liked today:     "List 8 things you think people have forgotten how to do." and  "Show us what winter looks like in your neck of the woods."  8 Things I Think People Have Forgotten How to Do: 1) How to not constantly fiddle with their phones--all the time, everywhere. 2)  Ho...
