Garden Pic Wednesday: Critter Visitors!

Image
Today's Garden Pics are Critters that frequent my yard: This is our Box Turtle friend who comes out when it's rainy and wet! This is the one with such a beautiful colored shell! He (or she---I can't tell) really loves the watermelon rind we put out! And this next shot is the Toad that likes sitting in this ceramic pot of Echeveria! I put a yellow arrow pointing at it, since it's covered itself in the container soil so it looks the same color. The eyes give it away.

Garden Pic Wednesday: Night Blooms,Veggies & Box Turtles!

Image
This morning I did some morning, but it was gray like a thunderstorm was looming and I could hear distant thunder, so I just did the north side and quit. But nothing came of it and a couple hours later it was sunny again--still I hear distant rumbling even now, when it's nearly 4 pm  It's that time of year. I did later go back out to collect blackberries and tie up tomatoes. My front flower beds are a vision of loveliness at night, thanks in particular to all those 4 O'clocks! So today's first Garden Pics are of my blooming night garden: These photos are at 9 pm last night: Above, my red Petunias, yellow Million Bells and yellow Paint 4 O'clocks all stay awake at night to feed the moths! I saw in Burpee a white night blooming flower called a "Moon Flower," that looks like a Morning Glory. It needs at trellis, so it's a vine like that. Next: My Veggie Bed Tomatoes, Zucchini & Melon. Also, a couple baby watermelon plants ...

Mama Kat Thursday: Best June Photos

Image
The Mama Kat prompt topic today is: "Share your top favorite photo you took in June. Give us the back story." I didn't expect it.  I'm always wondering around my garden, photographing flowers. I had my lens focused on a pink Zinnia. Then, just a split second before I clicked, something flew into the frame and landed on the flower. I couldn't really see it until I put the photos on my computer--then there it was. A little sweat bee posing for a pic! ******** He saw me and froze.  He was really enjoying himself, eating the dried out popcorn on the ground that I throw out for the birds. I saw him, grabbed my camera and stepped out the sliding glass door.  As soon as I did, he froze where he was, popcorn in his beak, keeping an eye on me until I went back in the house.  Then he finished his kernel and searched for another piece. Thanks for visiting!
