Good Eating Monday: Rich Slow Cooker Bread Pudding!

Image
Several recent Pinterest recipes I've tried were total wash outs, but this one for " Slow Cooker Bread Pudding ," was quite yummy. It makes a simple, yet fancy dessert. My guests gobbled it down and had seconds! No soaking is required. Just mix everything together, stir in bread cubes, then pour into slow cooker and cook! (Photo is my own of this bread pudding. I'm not much a food photographer, but I put effort into making this one look nice.)  Having tried it, I make the following recommendations. * Don't use a slow cooker liner. The dessert sticks to it, making it hard to dish out. * You'll need a total amount of 1 1/3 cups Heavy Cream . Make sure you get at least a 16 oz carton.  Anything smaller, won't be enough. *   I thought the original Glaze too sweet. It called for a full cup of sugar. So I consulted other Glaze recipes for Bread Pudding and found that   1/2 cup of sugar is enough for a good Glaze and so adjusted the Glaze re...

Good Eating Monday: Slow Cooker Chocolate Lava Cake

Image
Home made Chocolate Lava Cake! What could better? And in a slow-cooker, too! I tried this recipe on Sunday. It's a Pinterest recipe that easy and yummy. The original link goes to a Buzzfeed Tasty video on how to make it here , if you'd like to watch it. The recipe is okay as is, but I think it could greatly benefit form some slight improvements:  I'd like a bit more juiciness in the chocolate "Lava," so I recommend adding a bit more milk to the instant pudding mix--1/4 cup at least, as a start. Maybe as much as 1/2 cup, but I'd try the lesser amount first. I say it needs a bit more saucy "Lava" because "baking" in a slow-cooker makes for a drier cake texture and it really needs plenty of chocolate lava sauce! Also, I think the over-all flavor of the chocolate cake could be greatly enriched by the addition of 1 teaspoon of instant coffee and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon added to the cake. Even if you don't want the coffee, Cinnamon e...

Good Eating Monday: Slow-Cooker Chocolate Cake!

Image
Greetings! Nearly the end of October now--weather is cooling down. 46 at night on Wednesday this week is expected, which is fairly seasonal for  north Florida. Today I've been working hard on my Zazzle stuff--expanding designs to many phone styles and adding seasonal Christmas items. Also Lowe's delivered a pallet of landscaping blocks--the kind that stack into a wall. "Before pictures" of that project will be Wednesday's garden pic this week! Today I have an interesting dessert recipe: chocolate cake in a slow-cooker! I found this recipe on Pinterest, tried it and found it made a delicious cake! And it's easy. Just mix and let cook. I only found it hard determining when it was fully done, but I think you just have to trust the directions, since the top is moist from the steaminess of being inside a slow-cooker. It doesn't burn or dry out to cook it a bit longer if you're not sure and using a toothpick to test the middle might be a worth tryin...

Good Eating Monday: Slow-Cooker Apple Pie

Image
Welcome to the first full week of October!  Here in Florida it will be dipping down to a nippy 55 tonight, but only tonight. Normal fall temps are upper 70's by day and lower 60's by night. Getting down to those last couple mows for the year. We're doing a fun thing this weekend! We'll be going to the annual Pier Park Pirate Festival at Panama City Beach, which is about 50 minutes east of where we live. It's every Columbus Day and we happened upon it by accident last year, but I wanted to go on-purpose this year!  We'll be donning our pirate garb and joining the fun this Saturday! I've decided to try making desserts in my slow-cooker. Sundays is my "experiment with dessert day" so you may see quite a few slow-cooker desserts here! Today's Good Eating Recipe is one I tried yesterday: "Slow-Cooker Apple Pie" It's apple season, so what could be better? Walmart had a 5lb of McIntosh apples on special, too! (Good cooking app...
