Mama Kat Thursday: Sleepwalking

Image
Have you ever walked in your sleep? Photo from Pixabay Actually, I have. More then once. In this particular experience I'm going to share today, I do remember the details of my actions, but I remember them like an observer. It was like my conscious mind was just a passenger, watching what I was doing in a vehicle being driven by my unconscious. Perhaps it's because I'm a lucid dreamer by nature. Lucid dreamers are aware they are dreaming. When we were kids, my two younger sisters and I shared a bedroom. It was a large, spacious room. I slept in a full-size double bed and my sisters had the bunk-bed. Now this bunk bed was not your average store-bought type. This bunk bed was a huge, heavy wood one constructed by our Dad. The mattresses for it seemed a bit wider then your average single-size mattress, so they were plenty roomy. I had a penchant for wanting to sleepwalk myself into the lower bunk bed. In this particular instance, it was younger sister sleeping ...

Mama Kat Thursday: Duped

Image
I didn't care for any of the Mama Kat official link-up topics this week, but I did use her prompt generator to come up with this topic:   " You got duped. What happened ?" Unfortunately, I'm a bit on the gullible side. Equally unfortuante, my hubby happens to be a leg-puller. Not in a mean way, but a jovial, spontaneous way. The last time he successfully pulled my leg was just this year, back in March while we were visiting home in Indiana. We needed to drive to Effingham, Illinois to pick up my Uncle at the train station, which is about an hour away from Terre Haute, where we were staying with my Mom. On the way, we passed a billboard advertising something about Effingham and I mused out loud, "That's an odd name. I wonder where it came from? No doubt the town was named after someone." My husband smoothly replied, "It was named after Bruce Effingham, the 1848 Gold Metal Olympic Shot Putter." This sounded so plausible, I bought it. So ...

Mama Kat Thursday: A Good Laugh

Image
The Mama Kat prompt topic for today is: "What was the last thing that made you laugh?" My big laugh this week came from making a friend of ours, Evan, laugh. Now Evan is one of the young Air Force guys who attends our weekly Tuesday Bible Study at the Airman Center on base. He's a clean-cut, straight-laced Christian guy of about 22. He doesn't swear, smoke or drink. He's an expert on everything mechanical in a vehicle. That's his job in the Air Force as well as just something he loves to do.  He's also really into fitness and lifting weights, so if you could turn Hugh Jackman blonde and shorten him to 5-6, he'd be Evan.  But the most notable thing about young Mr. Evan is his laugh. He loves to laugh. He's even proud of his laugh. It's a boisterous, loud, explosive laugh that rises to a shrill crescendo that everyone can hear from every room in the Airman Center! He just recently came back from a six-month deployment, so there's...

Funny Story: Live Long and Prosper

Image
Here's a funny story. First let me set the stage: back when the most recent Star Trek film came out, Cheerios promoted it by offering an old TV series uniform style s-shirt for a box top and a few $. Dave chose the gold "Captain Kirk" style. And it's not just a Hanes shirt. It's actually a fine quality knit in the command gold color with a black collar and triangular Star Fleet emblem on the front.     So yesterday, he decided to wear it. He completely forgot that it was Wednesday and every Wednesday afternoon there's a Chapel Staff meeting he attends. Just so you get the picture: the Chapel staff here is made up of about 5 Chaplains (officers) and about a half dozen Chaplain Assistants (enlisted airmen, sergeants, etc.), the civilian admin staff (mostly ladies) and a few other people, including my husband, who is the Singles Coordinator. They meet in a large multi-purpose room at the Chapel which has U-shape arrangement of rectangular fold...
