Garden Pic Wednesday: Bachelar Buttons!

Garden Pics today:

A Profusion of Bachelor Buttons!
 Sometimes they are called Cornflowers. I've never had such a thick and prosperous bunch!
These I planted last fall from a random leftover box of Wild Flower type seeds and successfully protected them from the December deep freeze. I favor the blue, but they also come in shades of pink and white.


My newest Garden addition:
This green ceramic frog now sits amongst the Golden Creeping Jenny!
I found him at the Dollar Tree.

The Mama Kat blog writing topic for today is to, "Trouble I Got Into One Summer." It wasn't a bad sort of trouble. I didn't even cause it. It was just an inspiration our parents had that didn't quite work out as imagined. I think it was around 1972.  The television had gone on the fritz in the spring, just before school let out. I'm quite sure it was an older model with vacuum tubes and all. We always had "adopted TV's" that our Dad would be home from work because customers would often choose to give up a TV rather then fix it. He was a professional TV repairman. It's what he did and he could have easily fixed our TV. However, he and Mother Mom decided we 3 kids should have a summer, "without TV." That sounds like a good idea, right? Mama Kat Thursday: What Color Is My Personality?

  The question inquiring minds want to know from Mama Kat today is: "If you were on a job interview and the interviewer asked you what color best described your personality, what would you say? (inspired by blogger  Jamie Miles )   As a knee-jerk response, I might be tempted to say,"green." It's my favorite color. Though, I don't mean Irish green when I say that. I mean olive green. But does that really represent my personality? On deeper reflection, I say " no."   So what color does reflect my personality ? Years ago, a friend remarked to me that I was "flamboyant." Now flamboyant means "dashingly colorful or strikingly showy."  It fills my mind with fiesta images, swirling orange and yellow skirts and brightly colored pinatas. It sounds exuberant and fun.  I do wear the strong teals and purples of my autumn palette all the time, plus coordinated necklaces, showy earrings and scarves. I guess I stand out like ...

Mama Kat Thursday: 12th Grade Memories

Today's chosen prompt is to share a memory from 12th grade and of all my years o f high school, 12th grade has some nice memory highlights. Probably one of my best memories of 12th grade is writing fanfiction  with my friend Cheryl. We became friends in 9th grade and I got her hooked on my interest in it. There was a masked-hero show called "The Green Hornet" in re-runs then and I fell in love with writing script-like fanfiction for that show. Cheryl liked the idea and started writing similar fanfiction for her favorite show, Mannix. We both even had an original character we added into the mix.  I remember many a study hall period, us sitting side-by-side, talking in hushed whispers about whatever we wrote the night before.  Having someone to share a common interest with was super cool. Hoosier Memories: My First Car

  My first car waa a baby blue 1978 Ford Pinto Hatchback, 4-speed standard transmission just like this. I bought it after I got out of the Air Force and returned home to Indiana. It was 1980 and I was planning on going to college. I saw it advertised for sale by an individual in the local paper. Price was great and it was in great condition. It got 45 miles to the galleon on the highway--which actually puts modern, lighter gasoline burning vehicles to shame, considering that blue body was all metal. Heavy, too--on a good downward hill in neutral it could coast 50-60 miles an hour flat out.  It took me to college the next years and was our primary vehicle after husband and I got married for another year or so. I looking back, I regret we didn't keep it after we bought a new car. It would've been smarter to have kept it.
