Good Eating Tuesday: Disney World Eats

We had a conference in Orlando we recently returned from and since it was next door to Disney World, we took a couple extra days to visit various parks.  In particular, we visited the new Star Wars Galaxy's Edge that's in the Hollywood Studio's park. I think that was my favorite. It really had an other worldly feel and Chewbacca, Rey, various Resistance Fighters and Storm Troopers were in the area role-playing, like a Resistance Fighter suddenly dashed out of hiding through the crowd to evade a pair of Storm Troopers patrolling or Chewie and a Resistance soldier repairing a X-Wing Fighter and so on.  They did not pose for "character shots" or anything; just were doing theme ambiance.

But, despite rumors to the contrary, there is some really good food in the Disney World Parks and today I'm going to share some of the best eats we tried while there!

The Black Spire Outpost in Galaxy's Edge:
It had a cute little eatery in the " "outpost" with this ship turbine inspired rotisserie grill with "local wild life" on the spits. It was round with a narrow cement table top you could stand an eat at.
I had a Rondo Wrap, which was a pita with sliced pork, a long narrow sausage, a spicy-sweet slaw and chipotle-mayo. It was designed to provide a Star Wars "alien food" feeling.
It was one of the best lunch meals I had in any Park! Hubby got the Sampler which was a couple pieces of spicy turkey jerky and a pile of mixed color tostito chips and pork rinds in a square bag. I thought the chips went well with the wrap, but he's not a big one on "spicy," so he enjoyed his meal far less then me.
There were a one or two other canteen eateries in Galaxy's Edge as well; no reservation type restaurants yet.

Satu 'li Canteen in Pandora
Located in Animal Kingdom Park, the Pandora area is best visited at night when it's plant life is illuminated.
The Satu 'li Canteen is a counter-service that offers a build-your-own-bowl menu with choices of beef, chicken, shrimp or tofu plus a choice of base and sauce, all served in real ceramic bowls and eaten with real silverware. Only the cups were paper.
(Pictured is the beef bowl on rice, though I had noodles and you can ask for the beef to be cooked to order if you like something more well done.)
The serving is generous and tasty. It's meant to give you a feel of eating food on the distant world of Pandora.
No reservation required. You'll find it to the left when you exit the Flight of Passage attraction.

Sunshine Season's at Epcot
This one is located in The Land building on the lower floor in the vicinity of Soaring. We've eaten at it two different visits now.
It's a counter-service with five food stations, though the soup and sandwich section is usually only open for lunch. For dinner you have the Grill Shop, the Asian Shop & the Bakery available. Season's food has a nice quality home-made feel. It's not just burgers & hotdogs & fries. I actually had the meal pictured here: fire-roasted turkey & yellow rice with a black-bean sauce. Plus Hubby and I shared a delicious cornbread muffin.  He also had the fire-roasted turkey, but with mashed potatoes instead of rice. Season's does great mashed potatoes!
Definitely, if you're at Epcot and are looking for a good counter-service food-stop, I recommend Season's.

Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe
This one is located in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom. Admittedly, most Magic Kingdom counter-service restaurants are predominantly kid-fair burger and hot-dogs. Even Ray's gone that way, though until early 2019, they used to have the most delicious rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes & green beans for like $11.
But, they changed their menu. They do serve a unique Angus Burger topped with mac & cheese as well as thick foot long hot-dog you can also top with mac & cheese.
Generally, one of Ray's best features is it's extensive seating, more then most counter-services.
Because it was "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas" going on, Ray's was featuring a special seasonal menu item: 2 slices of roast turkey with 2 Gouda cheese plus 2 Applewood smoked bacon strips on a Hoagie roll with chipotle-mayo plus fries
It was delicious & filling. The bread was a little thick, so I ended peeling off some of that off, but otherwise it was excellent!  The only improvement I think they could make might be a whole-grain hoagie or a wrap, but it's just a temporary seasonal menu anyway.
I did read Disney plans on opening an Space 220 restaurant in Tomorrowland in the very new future. Diners will enjoy the feel of eating on a space station, so if you enjoy a table service reservations type restaurant, you can look forward to that.
