 Things That Bring Me Joy

One is my cat, Tawny, sitting on my lap for a nap while sitting in the easy chair watching a episode of a series, like Murder She Wrote. I'll often watching a second episode, just to go on enjoying her sleeping and purring on my legs! 


The other Joy this week is my flower garden:
This photo was taken yesterday looking across the top of my front flower bed. There are actually beds and borders all around my house.

We've had a couple of torties like Tawny, and while they can be a handful they're also very sweet. Nice flowers!

I've been thinking about a third kitty and those dark calicos are exactly what I'm picturing I've been missing out on. How much do you want for her?? ;)

Today's Mama Kat prompt I've chosen the option to write about something "creepy"---in this case, something creepy-cool: The Indianapolis Children's Museum Guild's famous "Haunted House!" It was started by the Children's Museum Guild in 1964 in order to raise funds for special projects & exhibits and housed in a large gingerbread-looking two-story house in front of the museum called the Dreyer Building. I remember Mother taking us there as children in the mid-60's. We waiting in a long, long line of people that wound from the parking lot to the front, then, once inside, we wound through two stories of scary fun! Volunteer Guild members dressed as witches strolled along the line, greeting guests.  Inside, this Haunted House was painted black and on the floor, we followed a trail of glow-in-the-dark footprints that guided us on our creepy journey from room to room, upstairs, then down. Mama Kat Thursday: My 4-H Trip to Purdue

The Mama Kat prompt I'm doing today is to share about a time I was forced to leave my comfort zone. I grew up in rural Indiana and I was in 4-H from age 10 to about 11th grade. My parents became local Club leaders when I was around 12. That's probably how my Mom knew about the state-wide 4-H event being held on the Purdue campus in Lafayette, Indiana. I was around 15 then and it was an overnight trip. I went. By myself. On a bus with a gob of other kids from other area 4-H clubs. I was the only one from my club who went and the only person I vaguely knew was the County Extension Office 4-H rep who also went. This is the first time I went anywhere without my family. So we arrived on the huge Purdue University campus around lunchtime. As we got off the bus, a person was there with a fan of activity tickets for a variety of mini-workshops for us each to pick two of, then we stowed our gear in dorm rooms and went to lunch in a campus cafeteria. I've Been On A Life Journey...

My life journey transitioned in 2020 when my husband of 38 years unxpectedly died in December that year. I was numb for months, yet still functioning thru day to day life. The Lord sustained me, granting me insights into my husbands death.  Now, looking back aside from those high-points, that first year is kind of a blur. Of course, priorities changed.  First thing I did,  right after his death, was adopt a cat from a local no-kill shelter. (She picked me!) We had a plan to adopt anyway and I enjoy a cat for companionship.  His death totally rearranged my life--I had to rearrange my daily routine, rearrange my house, my closets, my social activities... I'm still with the Navigators, doing ministry in the town I live in that's outside a military base, though now alone without my life partner. I don't have family in town or any children. So figuring out comfortable social activates to get myself out among human interaction became #1.  I joined a a local garden clu...

Garden Pic Wednesday: Bachelar Buttons!

Garden Pics today: A Profusion of Bachelor Buttons!  Sometimes they are called Cornflowers. I've never had such a thick and prosperous bunch! These I planted last fall from a random leftover box of Wild Flower type seeds and successfully protected them from the December deep freeze. I favor the blue, but they also come in shades of pink and white. My newest Garden addition: This green ceramic frog now sits amongst the Golden Creeping Jenny! I found him at the Dollar Tree.

Random Garden Pics: Alyssum & Garden Art

These white flowers are called Alyssum and the purple leaves are Purple Shamrocks.  I planted this Alyssum last spring---it wintered over, blooming like snow all winter, and now that's it's spring, it's spreading slowly.  To find things that grow well in Florida is actually amazing---so I was so pleased with this Alyssum, I bought more seed to plant! This second picture is one of my favorite Garden Art Pieces: It's 2 clay pots, a smaller one set at an angle inside a larger one, 2 Chicks and lots of Chinese Stonecrop cascading over the side! And the eye-catcher is the ceramic frog. Dollar Tree has the cutest little garden ceramics! Last year it was these frogs. (I bought 3, each in a different position.) This year, it's mushrooms. I bought 2 red ones, though the garden space I plan to put them isn't ready for decor yet.
