Mama Kat Thursday: Top 5 1974 Hits!

I was well into my teens before I first started really listening to popular music on the radio. That was around 1973-1974. Those were the days of vinyl records and D.J.'s still were polite on the air.
I didn't really have any favorite artists. Still don't. I just don't have a mind that remembers artists by name, but I do remember songs.
That was 43 years ago, however, so I had to review a Top 100 Hit List for 1974 to recall exactly which songs where hot that year and attach an artist to them!

So here's my nostalogic list of my favorite radio hits from 1974:

#1)  The Streak by Ray Stevens
A hilarious song making fun of a trendy 70's craze to strip then run through a public place or event butt naked, called "Streaking." 
I remember a seeing photo in the Indianapolis newspaper of a naked white guy "streaking" the Indianapolis 500 track back then.

#2)  Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
This was a fabulously beautiful, yet still kinda of creepy instrumental theme from the movie Exorcist. A Top 40 Hit believe it or not.

#3)  Nothing From Nothing by Billy Preston
A clever song featuring good math. It's presently the opening theme on a movie called, "Sahara," starring Matthew McConaughey, so I'm reminded of my youth whenever we watch it.

#4)  Tell Me Something Good by Rufus & Chaka Khan
Written by Stevie Wonder. There's just something appealing about the style and beat of this song I just always liked.

#5)  Takin' Care of Business by Bachman-Turner Overdrive
A kicky upbeat tune about getting out of the daily work rat-race to be self-employed as a musician. Classic rock at it's best!

The Streak is a song that totally sticks in my mind. It was quite the era, wasn't it! I remember when that song came out. I was in Jr. High at the time. A boy, from my school, got on a motorcycle one day and streaked up and down the road in front of the school. Quite the scene! From there on out, we saw plenty of "streakers"!

It's been raining intermittently today as the tail of Isaac's outer-most eastern band passed over us today. Luckily, no thunder this a.m. so I could get to water aerobics at the Y. The Imaginary Party Outfit for the Imaginary Party

Mama Kat's Writing Prompt for this week is a fun one:  " Put together a holiday outfit you'd love to wear at a holiday party should a holiday party ever be on your list of things to do." This concept requires 2 things: #1)  First, imagining I have an unlimited budget and can buy whatever I want. #2) Second, also imagining I might  actually have someplace fancy to go that requires such an outfit, like, for example, an upscale Christmas party at a plush Destin hotel. Now that we have the ground rules settled, we can look at the clothing catalog photos I selected for my "ideal party outfit." Now I love a lot of things I see on those oh-too-skinny models in on-line catalog photos, but I'm not a long-waisted, hipless, bustless, skinny-minny like they are. This weeks Mama Kat blog prompt: "April Showers bring May Flowers. Show us your May Flowers!" A white ceramic kitty peeks out from behind Hosta that's between Red Saliva and  Pink Million Bells in my front garden container! **** A stone Hippo swims among wood chips beneath  a Curly Parsley in a container  on the back patio! (He's a gift a friend brought back for us from his visit in Africa.) **** In Florida, May brings Easter Lilies! My house was surrounded by dozens of these all blooming at once! **** May also brings Gardenias! This bush is heavy with blooms both new and old!  **** In Florida, May is blueberry season! Good Eating Monday: Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding!

Welcome to the first week of February! It's supposed to be 31 degrees tonight, so after cleaning up the front walk beds, I went around covering various things that either are blooming, about to bloom or that have sensitive leaf buds, like my hydrangea's.  I picked all the yellow daffodils and brought them inside for a cheerful vase on my counter. For Garden Pic Wednesday this week I have an excellent photo of a pine tree flower! You didn't know pine trees flower?  Well, you'll have to stop back for a look! Today's Good Eating Recipe is a family favorite my Mother used to make often for us as kids: Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding! What Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding Looks Like This is just your basic wholesome old fashioned bread pudding made with just eggs, bread, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar & raisins! No sauces to make. Just simple bread pudding. We'd eat it hot with a little evaporated milk poured over the top.

Mama Kat Thursday: The Big Win

The Mama Kat writing prompt today is, "You won an award sometime in your life...what was it for?" After the military I went to a two-year college to study Commercial Art.  During the course of that study, our instructor presented us with an class project for the Indiana State Fair. They wanted to decorate their Pioneer Building on the State Fair Grounds in Indianapolis with 6 symbolic logos representing topics like Agriculture, Industry, Hoosier Travel and so on. It was a class contest and the State Fair committee would select the winning design. Indiana State Fair Grounds Now the Indiana State Fair is a massive affair. It's huge.  It has two sides with a horse track in the middle. This photo shows the main side that includes the Coliseum, numerous permanent barns for livestock and horses plus the permanent exhibit halls that showcase exhibits, like 4-H projects from clubs all over the state.
