Good Eating Monday: A Taco Emergency?

Image
I don't have a recipe today, but I do have a funny story that's food related. We were driving through our small town last weekend, on our way to our Air Force Commissary and had to stop at a major intersection because the traffic light had turned red. Despite it being a small town, the roadway through it is six lanes; three going West and three going East.  (The road was widened to  ease tourist traffic prior to the construction of the by-pass.) Anyway, we were in the middle lane when we came to a stop at the light and there were a couple cars in the left lane beside us, but the right lane was clear of any traffic---until out of no where, a big black Cadillac suddenly zoomed past us, running the red light I sort of held my breath watching, because that's a risky thing to do, but, lucky, no one waiting to turn left had moved. About a block past the intersection is a Taco Bell and we stared in wonderment as that speeding Caddy abruptly turned into Taco Bell. ...

Mama Kat Thursday: That Went Well

Image
My Hubby is the sort of guy who, whenever he gets an idea of something funny to say, he just blurts it out. Recently we went to our local Air Force Commissary, where we go weekly, and we passed a woman employee unloading boxes of Reese's Easter Egg Chocolates into a Easter display and had a grocery cart full of empty Reeses Egg boxes. This woman also happens to be a cashier we've met in line while checking out for many years. But all Hubby sees is all those empty Reeses boxes in the cart and with a big grin, says, "You must have eaten all those!" He didn't even think about the fact this lady happens to be a short, plump woman. For a split second she just stared blankly at Hubby, not immediately sure how to take that. I'm standing there beside Hubby feeling like this GIF of Jim Carey! Then, a another second later, she broke into a smile. She got the joke. She laughed. Hubby laughed and it was all good. As we walked away, I whispered to Hub...

Good Eating Monday: The Hilarious Sandwich Debacle

Image
On Fridays, on our way back from the Fitness Center, Hubby and I usually stop at Chick-Fil-A for a to-go lunch, since it's right on the way home. He usually parks the car and goes inside to order our take-out while I wait. (He feels this is faster then the drive-thru, since it's nearly always bumper-to-bumper at lunch hour.) Normally our order consists of one combo Grilled Chicken Sandwich with one iced tea and plus another Grilled Chicken Sandwich. (photo) Though, we get ours plain, without the lettuce & tomato. (Hubby doesn't like it and leaving it off makes the meal cheaper.) So, it's just a couple plain grilled chicky's on a multi-grain bun that we take home.  For this story, it's important you get that picture. Plain chicken. No cheese. No lettuce or tomato. We order this because Hubby's doesn't prefer fried crust and, for me, it's the lowest calorie sandwich option. Once home, I always fix my sandwich up with Vlasic spicy-sweet pick...

Mama Kat Thursday: Sleepwalking

Image
Have you ever walked in your sleep? Photo from Pixabay Actually, I have. More then once. In this particular experience I'm going to share today, I do remember the details of my actions, but I remember them like an observer. It was like my conscious mind was just a passenger, watching what I was doing in a vehicle being driven by my unconscious. Perhaps it's because I'm a lucid dreamer by nature. Lucid dreamers are aware they are dreaming. When we were kids, my two younger sisters and I shared a bedroom. It was a large, spacious room. I slept in a full-size double bed and my sisters had the bunk-bed. Now this bunk bed was not your average store-bought type. This bunk bed was a huge, heavy wood one constructed by our Dad. The mattresses for it seemed a bit wider then your average single-size mattress, so they were plenty roomy. I had a penchant for wanting to sleepwalk myself into the lower bunk bed. In this particular instance, it was younger sister sleeping ...
