Garden Pic Wednesday: Spring In Winter

Image
I'm little better today. Sitting is a bit more comfortable, but still I can't stay here all that long. Today's Garden Pic is a December photo from just before Christmas of my front bed where I have some "garden art" pots filled with either Hens & Chicks or Chinese Stonecrop: All that clover-looking stuff is Shamrocks. How they came to be here I don't know. They just moved in here one spring many years ago and here they remain. They are a most charming grown cover and I try to spread clumps of them around to other shady beds. The pink flowers are Vinca's. I like those because the reseed themselves abundantly. And the wispy, grass like leaves among the Shamrocks to the left are Dutch Iris leaves. All  the spring bulbs have their greenery up at this time of year.

Wednesday Pics & Mama Kat Prompt!

Image
Conveniently, one of this weeks Mama Kat Prompts is to share photos of "What Fall is Looking Like In Your Neck of the Woods!" Plus there's another prompt to share "A Favorite Thanksgiving Tradition."   So today you're getting a 2 for 1 : fall garden photos AND a tradition story! (Since I'll be taking Thanksgiving off from blogging!) It was a weathered piece of tree trunk about 28 inches long and 7 inches wide or so. It was wide in the middle and narrowed to a point-ish shape at either end. It was flat enough to rest easily on a surface as well as artfu...

Garden Pic Wednesday: Shamrocks & Broccoli!

Image
It's picture day again! Things are warming up this week, though we weren't unaffected by Sandy--despite being hundreds of miles from the coast. This past Sunday we could  feel  the low pressure from it. My husband and I both felt like we were wearing an invisible "hat" of pressure around our heads all day, giving us both slight headaches.   I feel bad for New York and New Jersey. That was an especially rough storm and they're not even remotely accustomed to such things. Unfortunately, we live on a planet that has--- weather!     But onwards and upwards... For Garden pics I have a couple of nice shots to show you.    First a recent pretty one my rust colored Dwarf Marigolds surrounded by Shamrocks, which happened to decide to bloom again now. (Shamrocks are the cute pink flowers.) Most years they just bloom in spring. I don't know what got in their heads this year! I transplanted this particular smattering ...
