Garden Pic Wednesday: Basil Flower Comparison

Today's task was trimming up the Pink Pampas grass beside my parking spot. Just on that side. I trimmed out about 15 bloom fronds and all the grass heaping along the parking spot. The Pampas blooms were thick around my Skypencil tree, so needed thinning out. 

Today's Garden Pic is a side by side picture comparison between the single flower blooms common to most Basil contrasted against the heavy full heads of Cardinal Basil. 
Bees love both.

Now this some wicked good dressing!  I tried it for Thanksgiving this year and everyone loved it! I've been looking for just the right dressing and I may have finally found it!  It's also healthy with a tasty combo of fruit, veggies and a mix of white & whole wheat bakery breads. It will fill a  fill a 9 x 13 pan.  You can use fresh or dried herbs. I've included the measurements for both. Just remember dried seasoning is more concentrated in flavor because it is dried, so you need less of it then fresh herbs. I have fresh Parsley growing outside and this was a great use for it! Welcome to the first week of February! It's supposed to be 31 degrees tonight, so after cleaning up the front walk beds, I went around covering various things that either are blooming, about to bloom or that have sensitive leaf buds, like my hydrangea's.  I picked all the yellow daffodils and brought them inside for a cheerful vase on my counter. For Garden Pic Wednesday this week I have an excellent photo of a pine tree flower! You didn't know pine trees flower?  Well, you'll have to stop back for a look! Today's Good Eating Recipe is a family favorite my Mother used to make often for us as kids: Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding! Good Eating Monday: Pineapple Coconut Quick Bread

Today's recipe is a Pinterest recipe for a moist yummy Pineapple Coconut Quick Bread that I recently tried. This bread gets more flavorful over time, so I'd recommend baking it a couple days ahead of when you want to serve it and just wrap and store it in the refrigerator.  I also think it should have nuts. My friends who tried it agreed, so I added pecans to the recipe as an option, since pecan are a sweeter nut. Good Eating Monday: Cabbage Kielbasa Skillet

This one is my own recipe for a quick dinner: Cabbage Kielbasa Skillet! All you need is cabbage, onions, an apple & your favorite kind of Kielbasa &  This recipe makes about 2 - 3 servings, depending on how hungry those 2 people are. The photo is my own, right in the iron skillet I was cooking it in. Ingredients 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil 1/4 head of cabbage (a quarter wedge), thinly sliced 1 Kielbasa, sliced 1 medium onion, sliced thinly 1 apple, thinly sliced Directions: In large skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil, then add sliced cabbage & onions & saute until cabbage wilts and onion is starting to look transparent. Add sliced Kielbasa and cooke 2 or 3 minutes, then add apple slices and stir in. Turn down heat slightly and continue cooking, giving a stir every so often until apples are tender. Can be served alone or over hot, steamed rice. A simple & filling we enjoy often! ***

The Mama Kat Prompt Challenge for today is "Describe a time when you wish you had spoken up."     Have you ever been on a cave tour? I have. More then once. When was a kid, we visited Mammoth Cave, which is HUGE and really cool. But here in Florida, we also have a state park with caves you can take a guided tour through. It's called Florida Caverns State Park, located on the panhandle about halfway to Tallahassee. Of course, compared to Mammoth, these are miniature caves, but they make great field trip fare for the school kids and offer a cool retreat from summer heat. The thing about cave tours is they all want to show you how really dark it is by turning off the lights so you can appreciate why cave crickets and fish are blind So, inevitably, the ranger will guide your group into a suitably large space, then after a talk about it, turn off the lights, so you can experience utter darkness.
