Garden Pic Wednesday: Snake Iris

Today's featured garden picture is my Snake Iris
I saw these in a garden catalog and ordered them about 3 years ago because they are so novel looking; citron green centers with dark purple, almost black, flag tips. They are a miniature iris with grass-like leaves. I planted them in this container because I read they multiply and spread readily---and they have! They've gone from 5 to about 15 to 20 blooms. They don't last long, but put on fine show about about 10 days.
I think they're called "Snake Iris" because they vaguely look like a snake's open mouth.

Mama Kat Thursday: Taking A Chance

The Mama Kat prompt topic for this week is:  "Talk about a time you took a chance. " I told hubby I was going to do this topic. He snorted and said, "You never take a chance." And, he's right--from a certain point of view--- if taking a chance only means risking your well-being. I would  never take a chance that might put me in harms way. However, "taking a chance" isn't limited to risking one's life or well-being, though it generally involves some kind of risk in order to gain something. But what's risked can be as small as time, or trust or matters of the heart; not just money or life.  So, from that point of view, a major time I took a chance is when I set up my first website to post some fan-fiction on that I'd been writing. Mama Kat Thursday: Worst Gift Ever

The Mama Kat topic for today is:  "Share a story about the best or worst gift you ever received." You wouldn't think chocolate could be a  worst possible gift, but, in this case, it was. It wasn't even wrapped. It was just a Dark Lindt Chile Chocolate bar that a guy from our singles Bible study handed me. He was a regular at our Sunday night study, a Navy guy in the school for learning how to disarm explosive devices. He knew I fancied chocolate and he happened to fancy Lindt's spicy Chocolate Chile bar. Mama Kat Prompt Day: Childhood Memories

It's been raining intermittently today as the tail of Isaac's outer-most eastern band passed over us today. Luckily, no thunder this a.m. so I could get to water aerobics at the Y. Thundered later a bit, but sun is out now. It's one of those liquid sunshine kind of days. I'm also pleased to report, since last night, someone has purchased one of the ties I just posted in my Zazzle store! Cool beans!   Today's Mama Kat Prompt is: What do you remember most about your childhood bedroom? That's a good question and it has a pretty funny answer. First you have to picture that my 2 younger sisters and I shared one large. That by itself is memorable. Mama Kat Thursday: School Dayz

The Mama Kat writing challenge today was to share, "an elementary school memory." For me, elementary school was 1st through 6th grade held in building in the middle of farm fields. It was rural Indiana. It was also the 1960's. There were no television in the classrooms. (Computers smaller then the size of a room didn't exist yet.) So on days when it wasn't nice enough to play outside, we had to play games inside, so I remember games so old-fashioned, I wonder if modern kids have ever played them! I recall in 3rd grade playing "Upset the Fruit Basket." For this game, the teacher stopped at each desk, whispered a name of a fruit to each student, then one student stood by the teacher, the odd-man out, their desk unavailable for use, all waiting in eager readiness for their fruit to be called.
