It finally is raining today after a week of heat.

Today's Garden Pic is another Coneflower blooming out in the front bed by the mailbox.
I raised a group of them from seed last fall & winter, then planted in the spring. This is one of them.

Today we're talking about chocolate. My favorite chocolate treats and, let's face it, I don't eat candy that's not chocolate. Nothing fruity or sour or minty or chewy or hard and I don't like anything that gums up my molars, like Butterfingers or Clark Bars. So--if I'm going to eat chocolate, here's my Top Ten Favorites: #1) For special occasions, like Valentines, it has to be Mounds. #2)  For everyday, Hershey's Dark Chocolate Kisses are my go-to treat. I always have some in the freezer. I'll have 2 after lunch and sometimes another 2 after dinner. #3)  For Christmas, a dark Chocolate assorted is a favorite gift: I prefer 60% to 80% dark chocolate. A single bar makes goes great with a mug of coffee! #4)  In lieu of a Hershey assorted, I'll take a Dark Ghirardelli: I think I had both the Hershey assortment and a Ghirardelli at Christmas that I gradually worked through by the end of January. #5...

The Imaginary Party Outfit for the Imaginary Party

Mama Kat's Writing Prompt for this week is a fun one:  " Put together a holiday outfit you'd love to wear at a holiday party should a holiday party ever be on your list of things to do." This concept requires 2 things: #1)  First, imagining I have an unlimited budget and can buy whatever I want. #2) Second, also imagining I might  actually have someplace fancy to go that requires such an outfit, like, for example, an upscale Christmas party at a plush Destin hotel. Now that we have the ground rules settled, we can look at the clothing catalog photos I selected for my "ideal party outfit." Now I love a lot of things I see on those oh-too-skinny models in on-line catalog photos, but I'm not a long-waisted, hipless, bustless, skinny-minny like they are. Mama Kat Thursday: The Halloween's of Yesteryear

The Mama Kat blog writing prompt for today is: "Share a memorable Halloween costume." An example of a 1960's boxed costume For me to reminisce on a memorable Halloween costume means I have to time travel back to the 1960's when costumes weren't sold on a rack, but in a box.  Each costume consisted of a character mask and a satiny polyester knee-length one-piece outfit with short sleeves, legs and an open back that you stepped into, then tied at the back of the neck. Usually it said the character name on front--just in case the mask wasn't identification enough. I remember seeing row upon row of these boxed costumes at the five-and-dime store in town all through October. I remember looking at them longingly. They were exotic, sparkly things. But they cost $5. Far too expensive. (In the 60's, that was roughly equivalent to $25 nowadays.) Mama Kat Thursday: That First Coffee

The Mama Kat topic for today is:  "The best part of my day is..." I guess I kind of fulfill that famous Folgers Coffee Jingle: "the best part of wakin' up is... "some kind of coffee.. .in my cup." The first best part of my day is Hubby finding my head somewhere under the covers to plant a kiss on my forehead, then the second best part of my day is that first cup of coffee. Usually a mix of Decaf Community Coffee and regular Chocolate Mint 8 O'Clock Coffee. The next best part of my day is our cat, Sunni, asking me to take a time out, away from the computer, let her sit on my lap for a little attention. We rest together that way, she and I. The final best part of my day is when Hubby comes home and we trade stories about how we spent our days.    Then the cat sits on him. So what's the best parts of your day? Thanks for visiting!

Mama Kat Thursday: College Days

T he Mama Kat writing challenge today is a "College Memory." After 4 years in the Air Force, I decided I was ready for college, so I was older then most of my fellow students, who were right out of high school. My first semester of college was in the fall 1980. The year John Lennon died. That alone sent a memorable wave of grief over the school population. I was enrolled in a 2-year Commercial Art program. It was a small country college. The class wasn't big. Maybe 20 students in my graphic art classes. I remember this one guy was obsessed with the band "KISS" and, anytime he could, he made them the center of his art. He was apparently great at drawing KISS; less great at anything else. My instructors were both commercial artists who'd worked in the field before becoming college teachers. Brad Rock was one of them. He was new that year.
