Random Garden Pics: Amaryllis & Chinese Stonecrop

I have 2 Amaryllis, each in a container out in my front beds: one is a dark, solid red and the other is this reddish-orange & white. Both have been faithful to bloom for like 15 years!



Today's other picture is Chinese Stonecrop in one of my patio containers, which is just now starting to bloom. I'm not quite sure how it got there exactly, but it looks really good!

Hoosier Memories: Party Lines

Growing up in Indiana, my family lived about 45 miles SW of Indianapolis way out in the country during the 1960's & 70's.  We had a black land-line phone like the one pictured. It was a party-line, meaning about a half dozen neighbors shared the same phone line. You could pick up the receiver and hear someone chatting away and, if you did, you just hung up to wait till the line was clear to make your own call. That may have been between 1963 & 1966, because sometime after everyone started having their own private lines. Believe it or not, most everyone had just one phone until the late 60's when it became trendy to have more then one phone, which meant you to have the phone company put in a land-line connection in every room you wanted an additional phone in. Teens started being able to have their own phone in their rooms, if family's could afford it, so they could talk to friends. That lasted thru the 70's. Mama Kat Thursday: Something Beautiful

The Mama Kat prompt today is to share "the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." I can't remember where we were or where we were going, but I do remember we were in our station wagon on the interstate crossing a bridge over a river. It was a very long bridge, being this was the Mississippi River. I recall peering out the window, and we had a clear view of the turbulent river water below the bridge. It had just finished raining. The road was wet, the sky partially clearing and a bit of sunshine had come out. We could see thick mist clouds hanging above the water slightly below the bridge and coming out of one of those clouds was a rainbow that curved downward toward the water below, it's lower portion vanishing among the mists. It was awesome. All rainbows are amazing, but this one sticks in my memory as particularly pretty.  (Didn't have a camera on me as a kid 45 years ago, so this attached photo just represents the idea.) Garden Pic Wednesday: Cheers Daffodil

 I was disappointed today because the Lawn/Landscape company I'd made an appointment with for this morning a week ago and he randomly didn't show up. I was quite disgruntled. I had to get up an hour earlier then usual to be ready for a no show. Not even a call. So, I called a different Lawn/Landscape company I'd gotten reply from on Nextdoor and he sounded more professional.  What I want is to lessen the work-load on myself by having a professionals hedge 3 front shrubs, do a general weed eating along driveway, walkway & various edged beds and, most importantly, remove the 2 large Pampas Grass in front yard.   I'd like to plant Plumbagos in their stead, which is a blue flowering shrub common here, which is also easy to maintain. Today's Garden Pic is a nice shot of one of my Cheers Daffodils. These are the most faithful Daffodils, showing up every year more numerous then the year before.
