Welcome to the first week of February! It's supposed to be 31 degrees tonight, so after cleaning up the front walk beds, I went around covering various things that either are blooming, about to bloom or that have sensitive leaf buds, like my hydrangea's.  I picked all the yellow daffodils and brought them inside for a cheerful vase on my counter. For Garden Pic Wednesday this week I have an excellent photo of a pine tree flower! You didn't know pine trees flower?  Well, you'll have to stop back for a look! Today's Good Eating Recipe is a family favorite my Mother used to make often for us as kids: Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding! What Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding Looks Like This is just your basic wholesome old fashioned bread pudding made with just eggs, bread, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar & raisins! Friday Finds: Breath Better!

Today, we're talking diaphragmatic breathing & how to do it. Call it "belly breathing," if you like. It's a method of deep breathing where you fill the lower portion of your lungs with air FIRST.  Belly breathing helps lower stress or anxiety and sends higher levels of oxygen throughout the body, the lymph system & the brain. I first learned the  diaphragmatic or "belly breathing" technique through a anxiety workbook I did. The author pointed that as newborn infants we all automatically breathing diaphragmatically and I've seen my share of fresh newborns as a Air Force medic and it's true. They do.   It is only as we grow older we start "chest breathing," with our upper lungs. Good Eating Monday: Peach Cobbler Dump Cake!

Yes, I tried another new Pinterest recipe and this one is a winner! The primary dictionary definition of a "Dump Cake," is an easily made cobbler in which cake mix is dumped over canned fruit or pie filling.  This recipe was pinned from Del Monte, which means it's been a recipe that's been created & tested in a corporate test kitchen. That's one benefit of all those label, can & box recipes provided by manufacturers on their product packaging. You can even buy cookbooks featuring nothing, but package & label recipes of which many are vintage. The only changes I'd suggest is add one more 15 oz can of fruit. It can be more peaches, cherry fruit cocktail, regular fruit cocktail or whatever you want. (So, I've noted 4 cans of peaches in the recipe.)   It just needs a little more volume on the fruit quantity.  And stir a teaspoon or two of cinnamon into the fruit! Good Eating Monday: Slow-Cooker Bean & Veggie Soup

I'm running late posting tonight.  I  had too much fun "playing" outside in the flower bed, getting it dug and seeds planted. After that it was supper time, then Monday is my one big TV watching night for me with 3 shows I like: Super Girl, Scorpion, then Castle.  Today's Good Eating recipe is based on Pinterest recipe for Slow Cooker Bean & Veggie Soup! After we got home from a week away visiting family, I wanted to have a veggie soup to eat on for a few days.  What I made isn't an exact copy of the Pinterest recipe, but my own version of it, since a high fiber, low fat vegetable soup with beans can be comprised of any combination of things you like.  It's a healthy meatless soup intended to be high in vegetable protein & fiber.  Anyway, here's the basic ingredients I used for my  Slow-Cooker Bean & Veggie Soup: 1 (32oz) box of chicken stock ( or any broth favor you prefer ) 1 cup matchstick carrots (or sliced carrots) 1 zucch...

Bananas Thursday: Hubby, the Grocery Man

It's "Banana's Thursday" because I didn't like any of the Mama Kat  prompt suggestions, so instead, I'm going to share a recent funny discovery about my Hubby--it cracked me up, listening to him on our last shopping trip, talking to a teenage bagger and, when he got into the car, I said, "I can't believe it! You've turned into Anal Grocery Man!"  And I just cackled with glee--because, normally the Hubby is laid back and easy going and, of the two of us, if anyone could be called, "anal," it's not him. It's me--who can spin up into a hurricane of dogmatic minute preciseness about a thing. We do our shopping at the Force Base Commissary, where the people who bag your groceries work strictly for tips. They are all either retired military, active duty military or dependents of military---so there's a broad range of ages doing the bagging.
