Have your Turkey yet? I saw frozen Turkeys in passing carts last weekend when we were shopping. Do you cook a whole bird? Bake it? Fry it? Buy one ready-cooked or smoked? Since it's just for myself and my husband, what I do is just a couple Turkey thighs in a slow-cooker, which is faster then a oven and makes them more tender. Enough Turkey.... Mama Kat Thursday: Two Before & After Projects

The Mama Kat Prompt topic for today is: "Show Us a Before & After." Last fall and this spring I had two major  drainage issue locations: one in the back yard and one on the side of the garage. After hours of TLC they're greatly improved. Here's the before & after on both: First: The Back Yard Pond : This happened every time we had a heavy rain: After: Same spot as it looks now. Paradise. I took advantage of the naturally concave area by edging it with flagstones and filling the center with gravel & water loving plants. The Chocolate Elephant Ears here are gorgeous! Second, The Other Pond: This bed edges on the garage near the front of the house. After:  I edged the bed with paving blocks, raised the dirt level on the grass side, then planted grass plugs. Mama Kat Thursday: What Happened to My Rug?!

The Mama Kat I chose today is to, "share a recent purchase."   L uckily, I happened to have made one. It's actually got a weird, amusing back-story. I have several braided rugs in my living room that are square red, blue & tan colored, like this one, pictured. One a large area rug, one is a 5 x 7 in the entry and two are 3 x 5.  One of those 3 x 5's is in front of this sliding glass door, here. We've had these rugs about 7 years now, since we had the floor redone. Well, this past week, I decided to clean several of those rugs with 409 spray & vacuum rug cleaner. Once it dried, I vacuumed. When I got to this rug in front of the sliding glass door, my Hoover vacuum suddenly snagged the rug's corner, sucking it up on the brush. I turned off the vacuum to un-snag it and when I pulled it out, the braid on the corner was torn away. I cut it off, but on closer examination, I realized the whole corner on the underneath had hard, crusty, blackened ...

Good Eating Monday: Peach Cobbler Dump Cake!

Yes, I tried another new Pinterest recipe and this one is a winner! The primary dictionary definition of a "Dump Cake," is an easily made cobbler in which cake mix is dumped over canned fruit or pie filling.  This recipe was pinned from Del Monte, which means it's been a recipe that's been created & tested in a corporate test kitchen. That's one benefit of all those label, can & box recipes provided by manufacturers on their product packaging. You can even buy cookbooks featuring nothing, but package & label recipes of which many are vintage. The only changes I'd suggest is add one more 15 oz can of fruit. It can be more peaches, cherry fruit cocktail, regular fruit cocktail or whatever you want. (So, I've noted 4 cans of peaches in the recipe.)   It just needs a little more volume on the fruit quantity.  And stir a teaspoon or two of cinnamon into the fruit! The Imaginary Party Outfit for the Imaginary Party

Mama Kat's Writing Prompt for this week is a fun one:  " Put together a holiday outfit you'd love to wear at a holiday party should a holiday party ever be on your list of things to do." This concept requires 2 things: #1)  First, imagining I have an unlimited budget and can buy whatever I want. #2) Second, also imagining I might  actually have someplace fancy to go that requires such an outfit, like, for example, an upscale Christmas party at a plush Destin hotel. Now that we have the ground rules settled, we can look at the clothing catalog photos I selected for my "ideal party outfit." Now I love a lot of things I see on those oh-too-skinny models in on-line catalog photos, but I'm not a long-waisted, hipless, bustless, skinny-minny like they are. I have more of what I prefer to call a "voluptuous hour-glass" shape. I simply look ridiculous in short-short skirts, straight shift dresses, the clingy knits, the fluffy-arou...
