Garden Pic Wednesday: Asparagus Fern Berries

Today I have an interesting December shot of Asparagus berries going from green to red!
It's probably the most festive thing I have growing outdoors during winter!
Birds can eat the berries. It also spreads easily, but unwanted starts are also easily pulled up. In Florida, it's a drought hardy landscape plant, but be warned---it's thorny!
When I was a florist, we'd use it for garlands sometimes and I'd come home with my fingers all pricked and scratched on those days.

Two Great Garden Pics today! Native Lily in the Basil! Not long ago I caught on camera this lovely orange native Day Lily bloom among the Basil leaves & blooms under the bird feeder!  My native day lilies bloom in a profusion in the spring and then bloom sporadically the rest of the season. This was one of those sporadic blooms. This Basil is a volunteer, a Thai type, and is a 30-inch tall clump under the feeder now. So pretty.  Rain Lilies! Turns out all that rain is good for something--it made some of my Rain Lilies bloom! Two this week! There must be around 20 planted in that rain garden; multiple colors: pink, yellow & white. I keep hoping they'll bloom in profusion, but they keep their own schedule. The pink have the largest flowers.

Good Eating Monday: Freezer Favorites!

Greetings! Another week of April! My back yard has turned into a marsh! It's because we've had some heavy rains about once a week without adequate break between for the ground to dry out. I was working back there today, digging grass out of my projected rain garden area. I was slogging around in a mud pie.  I really need galoshes or rubber garden shoes. I saw a funny thing this evening as I looked out at the bird feeder. It's got a grill around the feeder in the middle to keep squirrels out. Larger birds won't fit--generally. But I saw Mr. Red Cardinal was sooo determined to get to the that primo seed, he wedged himself right through the bars to enjoy it! I sat watching through the back door to see if he could get out okay and he did. Smart bird. We're looking forward to the new Spiderman--lots of humor in it and we like this actor playing the part. For Sunni: A Celebration of Life Video Tribute

Our cat Sunni, died last week. 15 Nov 2019. She was about 2 when we adopted her and was 19 1/2 when she passed, so we had around 17 1/2 years with her. To celebrate her life with us, I put together this video featuring lovely photos of her over the years enjoying all her favorite things! I'm sorry I didn't end up with any photos of just me with her; just of her with Dave. That's because I was usually home alone when she was sitting on me. Every afternoon she'd call me to come either come play with her, when she was young, or ask to sit with me and be brushed, when she was older. She was a sweet companion in our lives whom we greatly miss. For the story of how we adopted her, go   here . ******* Grief is always journey. Good Eating Monday: Graham Cracker Fluff!

This is a simple"Icebox Cake" made with just Graham Crackers layered with Cool Whip. We call it "Fluff," because it turns into the most delicious, moist goodness over-night in the frig! There was a local Chinese buffet we used to go to before it changed hands that used to serve a wonderful deep dish version of this and that's where Hubby got the idea to re-create his own.  It's his  specialty dessert and I've shot a photo series of him making a pan of it! His is  in a 9 x 13 pan, because it's dessert for a bunch of Army guys on Wednesday, but really you could make a smaller amount in an 8 x 8 dish if you wished. It's very adaptable. This has been a dessert favorite for our Sunday singles group for years! Creative Friday: New Easter Card!

I have ton's of beautiful flower pictures and I'm always trying to think of unique artistic ways to use them so they become more then just a bare "photo of a flower." This Happy Easter card is a new creation this week represents a style I'd like to explore more: It's a photo of a blue Hyacinth from my garden a couple years back that I altered in photo-shop and my graphic program to have a colored-pencil/watercolor art feel. Then I applied the lettering in Zazzle's design platform prior to publishing. The text on front and inside can be personalized by the customer to what they wish to say.
