Garden Pic Wednesday: Winter Shamrocks!

I moved numerous Shamrocks to my Hosta bed on the North side of my house for winter color, since all the Hosta's die back in winter and now they're blooming away!
They bloom all winter and into spring1

So, todays Garden Pic is Winter Shamrocks!

My life journey transitioned in 2020 when my husband of 38 years unxpectedly died in December that year. I was numb for months, yet still functioning thru day to day life. The Lord sustained me, granting me insights into my husbands death.  Now, looking back aside from those high-points, that first year is kind of a blur. Of course, priorities changed.  First thing I did,  right after his death, was adopt a cat from a local no-kill shelter. (She picked me!) Mama Kat Thursday: Surprise Birthday Back-Fire!

 Today's Mama Kat prompt is to write about, "a time you did something sneaky." Once upon a time, we had two guys in our military singles Bible Study group named Rod and Bruce. They were room-mates in a house off-base. Rod's 26th birthday was coming up and Bruce got the brain-storm to throw Rod a surprise birthday party. His plan was to distract Rod and get him away from the house by suggesting to Rod that they go to some Chinese restaurant to eat, but it would be a Chinese restaurant he "couldn't quite remember the location of," so they'd be out driving around while we set up the surprise party at Rod's house. We brought cake and blew up balloons. There was about a dozen of us. As a gag, Bruce had also suggested we might all put on some article of Rod's clothing, so we raided his closet for hats, ties, jackets and so on. Good Eating Monday: Indoor S'mores!

It was in the late 1960's when I tried my first S'More. I think the recipe was in the 4-H Cooking Project book. After that first taste, it was a family favorite whenever we had a wiener roast outside, since classic S'Mores involved toasted marshmallows. The original recipe calls for Hershey bars, but we found Hershey bar pieces weren't that responsive to melting all that fast or well under a single hot marshmallow, so we switched to using Brach's Chocolate Stars, which melt perfectly! We'd used 3 or 4 stars per half a graham, topped with a fat toasted marshmallow and they were perfect! So, with fond memories of S'Mores, today's recipe is a Pinterest recipe for Indoor S'Mores I tried out this week! The recipe is simple, though I used a bag of Chocolate Stars instead of Hershey Bars because they melt better.  The Indoor Recipe didn't mention a pan size, though the picture and ingredient quantities suggest it's a jelly roll pan. Garden Pic Wednesday: Bloomin' Thyme

Today, I had some things I'd been rooting to plant today. It was over-cast outside, so not overly hot.  Things planted include 7 baby Hardy Hibiscus grown from saved seed, 1 Purslane root from a stem I pinched off a neighbors plant I passed while walking (the stuff roots super easily) and about 6 or 7 yellow Coreopsis roots I plucked up from along the roadway with my weed tool and had in a bucket of water. They'd clearly been spreading themselves far and wide. Also planted more beet seeds and some new Spinach seeds I purchased, since the ones I had were too old. T oday's highlight garden pictures include a nice close shot of Thyme Blooms and also a photo of a baby Praying Mantis I spotted on one of my Sunflowers yesterday. Garden Pic Wednesday: Winter Arrangement

Goooood morning and welcome back!  Almost a new year! Last full moon of 2012 will be this Friday! Did you have a good Christmas? The yahoo poll on that same question today was highest for Christmas being "as expected." I specifically asked for a fuzzy feeling new bathrobe, which my husband got for me and he needed a new belt. He also likes ankle socks---the kind that have a low rise of ribbing that go up the ankle 1 1/2 to 2 inches. And he prefers colors, but that's a challenge in that type of sock. Being a class of sport sock, they tend to be either black or white. Joe Boxer does make a set of red/blue/gray ones, but the color on them disappears inside the shoe, since the ankle ribbing on all 3 is plain black. However, I was lucky to encounter a different brand that had a visible stripe of color in actual ribbing. It was a set of 3, each with a different color stripe in the black or gray ribbing.
