Garden Pic Wednesday: Monarch Butterfly on Zinnia

I managed to mow today the front and part of the side while it was overcast, but not raining yet. Only part of the side because the grass is going to see there and I want to let it. It was muggy, but not as hot.

Today's Garden Pic is a Monarch Butterfly visiting a Zinnia earlier in June.

Now this some wicked good dressing!  I tried it for Thanksgiving this year and everyone loved it! I've been looking for just the right dressing and I may have finally found it!  It's also healthy with a tasty combo of fruit, veggies and a mix of white & whole wheat bakery breads. It will fill a  fill a 9 x 13 pan.  You can use fresh or dried herbs. I've included the measurements for both. Just remember dried seasoning is more concentrated in flavor because it is dried, so you need less of it then fresh herbs. I have fresh Parsley growing outside and this was a great use for it! Good Eating Monday: Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding!

Welcome to the first week of February! It's supposed to be 31 degrees tonight, so after cleaning up the front walk beds, I went around covering various things that either are blooming, about to bloom or that have sensitive leaf buds, like my hydrangea's.  I picked all the yellow daffodils and brought them inside for a cheerful vase on my counter. For Garden Pic Wednesday this week I have an excellent photo of a pine tree flower! You didn't know pine trees flower?  Well, you'll have to stop back for a look! Today's Good Eating Recipe is a family favorite my Mother used to make often for us as kids: Old Fashioned Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding! Good Eating Monday: Old Fashioned Date Bars

I'm a day late this week, doing Monday's post on Tuesday, but a great recipe is good anytime of the week and this one for Date Bars truly is! I remember making Date Bars when I was a kid in 4-H and after my sister made some, I decided to look through Pinterest for a good recipe to have on hand and found this. I've made this recipe a couple times now; first just halved for an 8 x 8 pan (photo) because I only had one bag of chopped dates, but the recipe is for a 10 x 13 pan.  Old Fashioned Date Bars Ingredients: 3 cups pitted chopped dates (or 2  8oz bags of Dole Chopped Dates) 2 cups all purpose flour 1 cup quick oats 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 cups brown sugar, packed 3 eggs 1 cup butter or margarine (2 sticks)  1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 to 1 cup pecans to taste Directions: Prep a 10 x 13 baking pan by spraying it with oil spray and preheating oven to 375.  In a medium bowl: sof...

Good Eating Monday: Maraschino Cherry Cordial Bread!

I spent my hiatus from Monday "Good Eating" posts last fall trying out Quick Bread recipes from Pinterest. The definition of a "quick bread" is "any bread made without yeast as a leavening agent." This includes muffins, banana breads, pancakes, Irish soda bread, cornbread, brownies and even cookies----any baking recipe that uses baking powder or soda instead of yeast is a "quick bread." The type of quick bread recipes I was trying out were the sweet loaf types, such as banana bread or pumpkin bread, which are well known examples. But there is more to the world of sweet quick breads then just banana or pumpkin. Good Eating Monday: Cabbage Kielbasa Skillet

This one is my own recipe for a quick dinner: Cabbage Kielbasa Skillet! All you need is cabbage, onions, an apple & your favorite kind of Kielbasa &  This recipe makes about 2 - 3 servings, depending on how hungry those 2 people are. The photo is my own, right in the iron skillet I was cooking it in. Ingredients 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil 1/4 head of cabbage (a quarter wedge), thinly sliced 1 Kielbasa, sliced 1 medium onion, sliced thinly 1 apple, thinly sliced Directions: In large skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil, then add sliced cabbage & onions & saute until cabbage wilts and onion is starting to look transparent. Add sliced Kielbasa and cooke 2 or 3 minutes, then add apple slices and stir in. Turn down heat slightly and continue cooking, giving a stir every so often until apples are tender. Can be served alone or over hot, steamed rice. A simple & filling we enjoy often! ***
