Garden project this week was re-adjusting the pavers edging my Hosta bed on the north side of the garage. They were in a bit of a mess.

The Mama Kat prompt topic for today is: "Tell us about a job you quit...and why?"   I suppose everyone has a job they've quit at some point. I quit mine after 17 years. I used to work for a local flower shop as a floral designer. When I was first hired, the manager was a woman named Millie. She's actually the one who trained me and she was a pretty good manager. She provided a strong sense of leadership, clear guidelines for everyone to follow, hosted feed-back/brain-storming sessions for her employees and was smart enough to have an assistant manager, so she didn't have to be there every minute.   About 18 months later, Millie decided to retire and her assistant manager, Donna, took over as manager. Now the flower shop was actually owned by a Frenchman named Alain, who was a very savvy businessman. He just did the books, paid the bills and set the financial goals for the managers. Hoosier Memories: Party Lines

Growing up in Indiana, my family lived about 45 miles SW of Indianapolis way out in the country during the 1960's & 70's.  We had a black land-line phone like the one pictured. It was a party-line, meaning about a half dozen neighbors shared the same phone line. You could pick up the receiver and hear someone chatting away and, if you did, you just hung up to wait till the line was clear to make your own call. That may have been between 1963 & 1966, because sometime after everyone started having their own private lines. Believe it or not, most everyone had just one phone until the late 60's when it became trendy to have more then one phone, which meant you to have the phone company put in a land-line connection in every room you wanted an additional phone in. Teens started being able to have their own phone in their rooms, if family's could afford it, so they could talk to friends. That lasted thru the 70's. Mama Kat Thursday: 12th Grade Memories

Today's chosen prompt is to share a memory from 12th grade and of all my years o f high school, 12th grade has some nice memory highlights. Probably one of my best memories of 12th grade is writing fanfiction  with my friend Cheryl. We became friends in 9th grade and I got her hooked on my interest in it. There was a masked-hero show called "The Green Hornet" in re-runs then and I fell in love with writing script-like fanfiction for that show. Cheryl liked the idea and started writing similar fanfiction for her favorite show, Mannix. We both even had an original character we added into the mix.  I remember many a study hall period, us sitting side-by-side, talking in hushed whispers about whatever we wrote the night before.  Having someone to share a common interest with was super cool.       The Mama Kat prompt I chose today is to write a post using the word: final. For this one, I turned to my collection of writers prompts in Pinterest: "the last entry of an explorers journal" and thus this short  fiction was born: The Final Report by b.nickerson. Allen turned on the logbook and rapidly began tapping keys, composing his final report, quite certain he would not survive the night.      “ Of the seven of us, I alone am left,” he typed, then paused to reflect on events since they landed on this planet. Hoosier Memories: My First Car

  My first car waa a baby blue 1978 Ford Pinto Hatchback, 4-speed standard transmission just like this. I bought it after I got out of the Air Force and returned home to Indiana. It was 1980 and I was planning on going to college. I saw it advertised for sale by an individual in the local paper. Price was great and it was in great condition. It got 45 miles to the galleon on the highway--which actually puts modern, lighter gasoline burning vehicles to shame, considering that blue body was all metal. Heavy, too--on a good downward hill in neutral it could coast 50-60 miles an hour flat out.  It took me to college the next years and was our primary vehicle after husband and I got married for another year or so. I looking back, I regret we didn't keep it after we bought a new car. It would've been smarter to have kept it.
