Garden Pic Wednesday: Christmas Decor

 Instead of outside today, I'm going to show you my inside Christmas decorations.

For the glow of Christmas lights, I have this wreath I bought and decorated some years ago with M&M lights and decorations. 



I still like to put out my "Penguin Village," I call it. 
I arrange white batting as "drifts of snow" and arrange my penguin ornaments in the folds.




I arranged a couple Penguins with this Holiday card as well.

Mama Kat's Writing Prompt for this week is a fun one:  " Put together a holiday outfit you'd love to wear at a holiday party should a holiday party ever be on your list of things to do." Mama Kat Thursday: The Halloween's of Yesteryear

The Mama Kat blog writing prompt for today is: "Share a memorable Halloween costume." An example of a 1960's boxed costume For me to reminisce on a memorable Halloween costume means I have to time travel back to the 1960's when costumes weren't sold on a rack, but in a box.  Each costume consisted of a character mask and a satiny polyester knee-length one-piece outfit with short sleeves, legs and an open back that you stepped into, then tied at the back of the neck. Usually it said the character name on front--just in case the mask wasn't identification enough. I remember seeing row upon row of these boxed costumes at the five-and-dime store in town all through October. I remember looking at them longingly. They were exotic, sparkly things. But they cost $5. Far too expensive. (In the 60's, that was roughly equivalent to $25 nowadays.) This weeks Mama Kat blog prompt: "April Showers bring May Flowers. Show us your May Flowers!" A white ceramic kitty peeks out from behind Hosta that's between Red Saliva and  Pink Million Bells in my front garden container! **** A stone Hippo swims among wood chips beneath  a Curly Parsley in a container  on the back patio! (He's a gift a friend brought back for us from his visit in Africa.) **** In Florida, May brings Easter Lilies! My house was surrounded by dozens of these all blooming at once! **** May also brings Gardenias! This bush is heavy with blooms both new and old!  **** In Florida, May is blueberry season! Mama Kat Thursday: My Top 10 Favorite Chocolate Treats!

Today we're talking about chocolate. My favorite chocolate treats and, let's face it, I don't eat candy that's not chocolate. Nothing fruity or sour or minty or chewy or hard and I don't like anything that gums up my molars, like Butterfingers or Clark Bars. So--if I'm going to eat chocolate, here's my Top Ten Favorites: #1) For special occasions, like Valentines, it has to be Mounds. #2)  For everyday, Hershey's Dark Chocolate Kisses are my go-to treat. I always have some in the freezer. I'll have 2 after lunch and sometimes another 2 after dinner. #3)  For Christmas, a dark Chocolate assorted is a favorite gift: I prefer 60% to 80% dark chocolate. A single bar makes goes great with a mug of coffee! #4)  In lieu of a Hershey assorted, I'll take a Dark Ghirardelli: I think I had both the Hershey assortment and a Ghirardelli at Christmas that I gradually worked through by the end of January. #5...

     The Mama Kat's Writing Prompt of choice this week is #5: Share a story about a sibling .      My growing up years were full of magic and adventure. I remember so much laughter and romping  through sun-dappled woods down to the gurgling creek flowing through the valley below our house, the dog running ahead of us, her tail like a flag in the breeze. My two younger sisters and I could skip agiley over the rocks we placed in the stream for crossing, like little mountain goats, our feet never touching water. There was always adventure to had, flowers to be found, creepy-crawlies to be discovered and I remember our Barbie and Ken dolls enjoyed many a luxurious, stone-lined spa in that stream.       However, the particular sibling story I want to tell happened not by the steam, but near the house out in my Mother's garden.
