Garden Pic Wednesday: Purple Shamrocks & Melba Bi-Color Daylilies

Garden Pics this week:

Nice shot of sunny Purple Shamrocks:
Because they get more sun, these have green patches, but it gives them a nice look! They remain darker purple in full shade.


 

Daylilies are Blooming!
These are a hybrid Daylily, which means they've been bred for a particular color.
These aree a bi-color with 3 petals of one color and 3 of another shade. I call them "Melba" for their color, which is a pinkish-orange.
 I bought them from a retired guy down the road who had a who huge garden of Hybrid Daylilies of every sort of color that he'd offer for sale every May, to thin them out.
He sold me these particular ones for $2.00.
 It's a very large Daylily with very tall greenery that's very hardy and prolific.
I've separated it & moved clumps of it all sorts of places in various beds. Best $2 I ever spent!

Yes, I tried another new Pinterest recipe and this one is a winner! The primary dictionary definition of a "Dump Cake," is an easily made cobbler in which cake mix is dumped over canned fruit or pie filling.  This recipe was pinned from Del Monte, which means it's been a recipe that's been created & tested in a corporate test kitchen. That's one benefit of all those label, can & box recipes provided by manufacturers on their product packaging. You can even buy cookbooks featuring nothing, but package & label recipes of which many are vintage. The only changes I'd suggest is add one more 15 oz can of fruit. It can be more peaches, cherry fruit cocktail, regular fruit cocktail or whatever you want. (So, I've noted 4 cans of peaches in the recipe.)   It just needs a little more volume on the fruit quantity.  And stir a teaspoon or two of cinnamon into the fruit! Friday Finds: Crystal River, Florida!

Todays "find" is a few photos I took in Crystal River, Florida. We recently drove down to Homosassa Springs, Florida to visit Hubby's half brothers & sisters, though our motel was in the adjacent hamlet called Crystal River.   The Days Inn there was a Denny's attached, so it was a great place to stay! We live on the Panhandle and Crystal River/Homosassa Springs are on the western side of the Peninsula south of Gainesville, but north of Clearwater about a 7 hour drive away. The area is small town America, both towns situated around  two large rivers that pour into a delta on the Gulf and are surrounded by State and National wildlife preserves and parks. Mama Kat Thursday: The Shelf Cat

The Mama Kat blog prompt topic for today is: "Tell us how your pet came to be a member of your family." It's an interesting story really.  I mean, when you want to adopt to cat and you're standing in a shelter surrounded by 40 choices, how do you pick the right one? Sunni, age 13. She's not allowed outside on the ground, but Hubby will hold her on his lap on the patio. Luckily, Sunni picked us. It was 2003 and we'd been without a cat for 3 years.--it took me awhile to feel ready to face the decision of choosing a new one after the death of our previous beloved.  There's a no-kill shelter located on our Air Force Base and we went there. It was my first trip to a shelter. I also prayed hard before-hand for a way to know which cat to choose, one that would be a good companion for us. Mama Kat Thursday: Famous People I've Met

"What famous people have I met?" is the Mama Kat prompt question of the day.       Actually, I've met a few. The most well-known famous Hollywood person I've met is George Takei, who played Mr. Sulu on the Original Star Trek series and a few subsequent films.        It was 1989, the year Star Trek V came out. There was a Trek Convention in Tampa. I  happened to be in a local Star Trek Club at the time and one of the members knew someone who knew someone willing to let us bunk at their home for the Con weekend. So 4 of us packed up our Trek costumes and we drove down.        I was 33 at the time and the Trek Club was run by a  guy and his wife who lived in Eglin Base Housing. My husband and I also lived in the same Base Housing, a few blocks away. We joined the Club together. Since I could sew, I ended up making several original series shirts for club members. I wore a gold shirt with the emblem, like pictured, with black pants and boots.  Pretty authentic looking.

Mama Kat Thursday: Say What?

Today's Mama Kat blog writing topic is,  "Write about something that made you laugh this week." I call it audio auto-fill. You know like what your phone does, except this is what your brain does when your ears hear words you can't quite make out clearly, so your brain "fills" in with other words---sometimes with hilarious results. Hubby and I have had two of those this past week: We were eating dinner and I said, "Tomorrow I need to refill the bird feeder." Hubby's  fork stopped in midair as he looked at me like a horn popped out of my forehead. "What did you say?" he asked. I repeated. He chuckled. "I thought you said you had to sell some beer tomorrow." Another day we were eating lunch. Hubby likes to eat chocolate rice cakes with peanut butter and honey.
