Random Garden Pics: Fall Bumble Bees on Marigolds

I have a nice row of Dwarf Marigolds & Vinca out front that all the bees & butterflies have been loving. 
It's the same Bumble in both shots. There were numerous honey bees and this one large Bumble. It's a Brown-Belted Bumble identifiable by the furry brown stripes from waist to tail and the fuzzy yellow thorax. Bumbles are always completely fuzzy; Carpenter Bees have a smooth rear end without any fuzz.

Garden Pics today: A Profusion of Bachelor Buttons!  Sometimes they are called Cornflowers. I've never had such a thick and prosperous bunch! These I planted last fall from a random leftover box of Wild Flower type seeds and successfully protected them from the December deep freeze. I favor the blue, but they also come in shades of pink and white. My newest Garden addition: This green ceramic frog now sits amongst the Golden Creeping Jenny! I found him at the Dollar Tree.

Mama Kat Thursday: The Summer Without TV

The Mama Kat blog writing topic for today is to, "Trouble I Got Into One Summer." It wasn't a bad sort of trouble. I didn't even cause it. It was just an inspiration our parents had that didn't quite work out as imagined. I think it was around 1972.  The television had gone on the fritz in the spring, just before school let out. I'm quite sure it was an older model with vacuum tubes and all. We always had "adopted TV's" that our Dad would be home from work because customers would often choose to give up a TV rather then fix it. He was a professional TV repairman. It's what he did and he could have easily fixed our TV. However, he and Mother Mom decided we 3 kids should have a summer, "without TV." That sounds like a good idea, right? Mama Kat Thursday: What Color Is My Personality?

  The question inquiring minds want to know from Mama Kat today is: "If you were on a job interview and the interviewer asked you what color best described your personality, what would you say? (inspired by blogger  Jamie Miles )   As a knee-jerk response, I might be tempted to say,"green." It's my favorite color. Though, I don't mean Irish green when I say that. I mean olive green. But does that really represent my personality? On deeper reflection, I say " no."   So what color does reflect my personality ? Years ago, a friend remarked to me that I was "flamboyant." Now flamboyant means "dashingly colorful or strikingly showy."  It fills my mind with fiesta images, swirling orange and yellow skirts and brightly colored pinatas. It sounds exuberant and fun.  I do wear the strong teals and purples of my autumn palette all the time, plus coordinated necklaces, showy earrings and scarves. I guess I stand out like ...

Mama Kat Thursday: Vintage Back to School Memories

Today's Mama Kat is to share, "A Back to School Memory."      The scent of autumn was in the air and golden rod was in bloom when I started school in 1963.  I wore a dress, since dresses were what all girls wore to school back then, and carried a red & black plaid book bag, such as the one pictured.       I carried all my books back and forth to school everyday. Initially, I don't recall we could leave books in the our desks and I remember not enjoying how heavy trundling that loaded book bag back and forth was.  At some point in grade school, we had assigned desks and could leave our stuff there. I think desk styles changed maybe, though I can't remember. I do remember I wasn't carrying that thing back and forth in 2nd grade. 50's/60's Book Bag      I would wait for the bus at the end of the driveway and on this particular day I recall going sitting at the very farthest back seat. In Memory of Dave Nickerson

A Special Video Commemorate & Celebrate My Husband, Dave Nickerson We were married 38 happy years. A Summary Obituary Dave loved Jesus. He loved people. He loved helping people know Jesus. He adored me. He joined the Air Force in 1971. We met in 1979 and were married in 1982. During his career he was stationed at Los Angeles AB, Korea, Andrews AFB, Bolling AFB, Eglin AFB & Ankara, Turkey AB. He retired from the Air Force in 1991 and accepted a missionary Staff position with The Navigators. Our mission field was the young military on Eglin AFB. He went to college locally, earning a double BA in Religious Studies and also Counseling. He was a volunteer coordinator for the Eglin Chapel managing Singles Bible Studies and all their Singles Outreach programs from the mid 1990's thru 2016. Then a new Chaplain arrived, who didn't want anything to do with Navigators and dismissed Dave from that position. So Dave just moved himself and his laptop to the base Dining Facility and ...
