Garden Pic Wednesday: Fall Gerber Daisy

Image
The Garden Pic today is one of my Gerber's putting up a fall bloom! Here in Florida, Gerber tend to bloom in both spring & fall, but not during the heat of summer. A couple days later...s ame Gerber, but with an empty Cicada shell underneath.  At first I thought it might be a sleeping bee, but on closer look saw it was just a cicada shell. It's just an Annual Cicada, which have a green tint to there wings. The adult die off in winter. A nymphs like this pop out from underground, craw up something to hatch the winged adult.  A few pop-up now and again thru-out the year and take to the trees to find a mate to start the process all over. I've   found at least 3 shells on my grill cover this year. The other kind, the 17 year type have a red tint to wings and a slimmer body shape.

Garden Pic Wednesday: November Blooms

There was an early freeze this year, but that freeze didn't effect everything. Mostly just the Vinca & Saliva, which often come back from the roots. In full color right now: This row of button cushion mums under my kitchen window I planted around the beginning of Oct. And this handsome pink Gerber in my front bed:

Garden Pic Wednesday: Fall Gerber!

It's a nice day here in Florida. Sunny and warmish-cool. A good day to finish mowing the last third of the yard that wasn't done yet. And pick up about 50 pine cones. Today's Garden Pic of the week is my Pink Gerber, which has bloomed this past week. It actually has a second head up since I took this picture. I applied a black and white focal effect, which shows off the flower and mutes the background! Also, I brought in all my indoor plants: These particular ones sit on the island in my kitchen in front of the window.
