Garden Pic Wednesday: Chinese Forget-Me-Knots

Image
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! I ordered a grocery store turkey & sides, but was disappointed in most of the sides. Just one Garden Pic today: Chinese Forget-Me-Knots They are such a pretty blue! I have two plants that grew from the Dollar Tree pack of Butterfly Flower Seed I randomly planted back in August. I had one before and they don't mind the Florida winter. I hope these with leave seed behind, so more will come up in spring!

Garden Pic Wednesday: Chinese Forget-Me-Not & Lettuce Garden

Today's Garden Pics are my "Chinese Forget Me Not" & my Lettuce: This is Cynoglossum Amiable. Also called  "Chinese Hounds Tongue"  I just figured that out today, googling pictures. I didn't realize there is a true type of Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis Scorpioides), which has flowers with yellow centers and tends to be invasive.  The Chinese Forget Me Not has blue centers and is more garden friendly. It's the type found in wild flower seed packs. Back in spring I bought "wild flower" seeds from the Dollar Tree that were on a seed mat you roll out and this was the ONLY seed that sprouted. he leaves are slightly fuzzy (thus the name "hounds tongue") and look very similar to Black Eyed Susan leaves. It started blooming in early December. For Florida, that isn't unusual. I have Gerbers blooming right now. And I promised a picture of my booming lettuce crop: here it is:

Garden Pic Wednesday: Bee, Balloon Flower & Forget-Me-Not

Image
Three pictures for todays Garden Pics: Preening Bee: I saw this Bumble Bee, clinging to this Pampas Grass bloom. It was cleaning  itself, like a cat, washing this leg, then that leg, preening. Then about 6 or 7 minutes later, flew on it's way.  Just One Forget-Me-Not Out of a dozen seeds in a packet a neighbor gave me, only this one Forget-Me-Knot grew. It has just bloomed. I'm going to let it go to seed. Maybe more next year?   Balloon Flower: Despite the purple tone in the sunlight, this Blue Balloon Flower tends toward bluish. They're called that named because their buds, just prior to opening, look like little hot air balloons. I'm letting spent buds go to seed on these, too, though I'll collect them. This plant is actually one grown from saved seed.
