Garden Pic Wednesday: Cheers to Spring!

Today's Garden Pic is a lovely shot of one of my Cheers Daffodils!
They've been fruitful and multiplied, so I have a bunches of them blooming along the back of the house and in containers up front.
A snipped several stems and brought them in to put in a vase.
They have such a delightful, light powdery fragrance!



Other garden projects I did today, despite it being cloudy, was laying in some of the Castle wall blocks that used to line the edges of the veggie bed in short rows of 3-blocks wide to form a walk-way between the new raised garden beds.
Then I planted seeds in my in-ground clay pots: more red sorrell, spinach and container peas and radish seeds in front of each clay pot. Radishes are easy and fun to grow. They're delicious roasted or baked. Not just for salads.

The Mama Kat I chose today is to, "share a recent purchase."   L uckily, I happened to have made one. It's actually got a weird, amusing back-story. I have several braided rugs in my living room that are square red, blue & tan colored, like this one, pictured. One a large area rug, one is a 5 x 7 in the entry and two are 3 x 5.  One of those 3 x 5's is in front of this sliding glass door, here. We've had these rugs about 7 years now, since we had the floor redone. Well, this past week, I decided to clean several of those rugs with 409 spray & vacuum rug cleaner. Once it dried, I vacuumed. When I got to this rug in front of the sliding glass door, my Hoover vacuum suddenly snagged the rug's corner, sucking it up on the brush. I turned off the vacuum to un-snag it and when I pulled it out, the braid on the corner was torn away. Mama Kat Prompt Thursday: 5 Comforting Things

Have your Turkey yet? I saw frozen Turkeys in passing carts last weekend when we were shopping. Do you cook a whole bird? Bake it? Fry it? Buy one ready-cooked or smoked? Since it's just for myself and my husband, what I do is just a couple Turkey thighs in a slow-cooker, which is faster then a oven and makes them more tender. Enough Turkey.... On to  Mama Kat's Prompt for Today: "List 5 Things That Bring You Comfort."   #1) Reading the Bible & Prayer : I get a lot of comfort from hearing the Lord Jesus through scripture and reviewing the many promises He has given me. I have a stack of index cards, full of them.   #2) My Husband : He's just a really warm, comforting person. That's one reason why I married him. Mama Kat Thursday: Two Before & After Projects

The Mama Kat Prompt topic for today is: "Show Us a Before & After." Last fall and this spring I had two major  drainage issue locations: one in the back yard and one on the side of the garage. After hours of TLC they're greatly improved. Here's the before & after on both: First: The Back Yard Pond : This happened every time we had a heavy rain: After: Same spot as it looks now. Paradise. I took advantage of the naturally concave area by edging it with flagstones and filling the center with gravel & water loving plants. The Chocolate Elephant Ears here are gorgeous! Second, The Other Pond: This bed edges on the garage near the front of the house. After:  I edged the bed with paving blocks, raised the dirt level on the grass side, then planted grass plugs. Good Eating Monday: Peach Cobbler Dump Cake!

Yes, I tried another new Pinterest recipe and this one is a winner! The primary dictionary definition of a "Dump Cake," is an easily made cobbler in which cake mix is dumped over canned fruit or pie filling.  This recipe was pinned from Del Monte, which means it's been a recipe that's been created & tested in a corporate test kitchen. That's one benefit of all those label, can & box recipes provided by manufacturers on their product packaging. You can even buy cookbooks featuring nothing, but package & label recipes of which many are vintage. The only changes I'd suggest is add one more 15 oz can of fruit. It can be more peaches, cherry fruit cocktail, regular fruit cocktail or whatever you want. (So, I've noted 4 cans of peaches in the recipe.)   It just needs a little more volume on the fruit quantity.  And stir a teaspoon or two of cinnamon into the fruit! Good Eating Monday: Pineapple Sheet Cake!

Greetings! Another new week in March! My Hyacinths outside are blooming and I snipped a pink one to bring inside jsut for the smell because they are soooo exquisitely fragrant! I'll probably feature photos of them on Wednesday! Today's Good Eating recipe is Pinterest cake recipe I'm trying out this week: Pineapple Sheet Cake! Though, I actually won't be making until tomorrow to take to Bible Study on base tomorrow night, so I'll have to report back later on how it came out!  All those Air Force guys & gals make excellent test subjects! Though it's a sheet cake, I'll be making it in a 9 x 13 pan like the blogger who posted it, so it will be thicker, as in the photo. She did recommend doing it as a thinner sheet cake if you want to take it to a crowd event, like a picnic. The recipe calls for 1 can of crushed pineapple with the juice plus 2 cups of sugar in the cake---with pineapple being so sweet itself, I'll  definitely be knock...
