I've Been On A Life Journey...

My life journey transitioned in 2020 when my husband of 38 years unxpectedly died in December that year. I was numb for months, yet still functioning thru day to day life. The Lord sustained me, granting me insights into my husbands death.  Now, looking back aside from those high-points, that first year is kind of a blur. Of course, priorities changed.  First thing I did,  right after his death, was adopt a cat from a local no-kill shelter. (She picked me!) We had a plan to adopt anyway and I enjoy a cat for companionship.  His death totally rearranged my life--I had to rearrange my daily routine, rearrange my house, my closets, my social activities... I'm still with the Navigators, doing ministry in the town I live in that's outside a military base, though now alone without my life partner. I don't have family in town or any children. Mama Kat Thursday: The Big Win

The Mama Kat writing prompt today is, "You won an award sometime in your life...what was it for?" After the military I went to a two-year college to study Commercial Art.  During the course of that study, our instructor presented us with an class project for the Indiana State Fair. They wanted to decorate their Pioneer Building on the State Fair Grounds in Indianapolis with 6 symbolic logos representing topics like Agriculture, Industry, Hoosier Travel and so on. It was a class contest and the State Fair committee would select the winning design. Indiana State Fair Grounds Now the Indiana State Fair is a massive affair. It's huge.  It has two sides with a horse track in the middle. This photo shows the main side that includes the Coliseum, numerous permanent barns for livestock and horses plus the permanent exhibit halls that showcase exhibits, like 4-H projects from clubs all over the state. Mama Kat Thursday: When A Job Turns Bad

The Mama Kat prompt topic for today is: "Tell us about a job you quit...and why?"   I suppose everyone has a job they've quit at some point. I quit mine after 17 years. I used to work for a local flower shop as a floral designer. When I was first hired, the manager was a woman named Millie. She's actually the one who trained me and she was a pretty good manager. She provided a strong sense of leadership, clear guidelines for everyone to follow, hosted feed-back/brain-storming sessions for her employees and was smart enough to have an assistant manager, so she didn't have to be there every minute.   About 18 months later, Millie decided to retire and her assistant manager, Donna, took over as manager. Now the flower shop was actually owned by a Frenchman named Alain, who was a very savvy businessman. He just did the books, paid the bills and set the financial goals for the managers. Donna was a decent manager. She was there Monday through Friday...

Friday Finds: Things to Do With All Those Photos

I got this idea from someone else's post in my Google+ and thought it great to pass along! We all have tons of photos around---in our phones, saved in our computers, sitting in boxes waiting for that being made"someday" into a memory book! Heres's some easy ideas for putting those photos to use: 1 )  Enjoy your photos right on your computer screen! Select "Slideshow" in your computer screen Personalization setting, choose a file of photos for "browse," and enjoy a shifting display of your photos! The time is automatically 30 minutes, but can be set to other options. (This means you'll have to save your camera and phone photos to your computer to have a file to browse---if you haven't already.) 2)  Make a Calendar! For yourself of your last vacation or a family photo one to send to relative! It's a great Holiday gift idea!
